Methodology

How we score

The Critic Score combines ratings issued by independent publications into one clear 100-point view. Unscored reviews add context but never receive hidden weight in the total.

Step 1

Collection

We track Apple product reviews from established publications and link to the product-specific article whenever one is available. A rating only counts when the publisher issued it.

Step 2

Normalization

Different publications use different rating scales. Every score is normalized to 0–100.

Step 3

Unscored reviews

Many respected publications publish a written verdict without a number. Those reviews remain visible as useful reading. Mac To iPhone may show a clearly labelled interpretation beside the review, but it is excluded from the Critic Score, rankings and Google rating data.

Step 4

Weighting

Not every review source carries the same context. Apple specialist publications and established tech reviewers are weighted so the final score reflects both expertise and breadth.

Final score blends normalized ratings with source weighting.

Keeping scores current

Scores are refreshed as new reviews are found, so recently reviewed products can move as the consensus develops.
